Kenneth Ladd

OROFINO, Idaho - Kenneth Ladd, 87, died Thursday at Orofino Convalescent Center where he had been a patient for only a few days.

Born Feb. 21, 1884, in Iowa, he came west by team and wagon and drove horse-drawn freight wagons between Orofino, Kendrick and Pierce.

Mr. Ladd, for many years a woodsworker and mill hand in the Orofino area, started hauling freight behind four horses soon after arriving at Orofino in the early 1900s.

His freight line extended from Kendrick, Southwick and Leland to Orofino and Greer and on to Weippe, Fraser and Pierce.

Three years later he turned to farming on Gilbert Hill. He worked at Grangemont and for L. L. Cardiff, and the Riverside Lumber Co. He retired in 1952.

Survivors include a brother, Donald Ladd, Missoula, and several nephews and nieces in the Orofino area.

The body is at Gilbert's Funeral Home.
